6 Ways to Keep Your Identity Safe During a Home Showing

Tags :

When preparing your home to show potential buyers, be sure you’re not leaving yourself vulnerable to identity theft. Although most people who come through your home have honest intentions, it’s still important to take precautions against those rare few who don’t. Here are some tips to keep your identity safe:

1. Don’t invite thieves
Remove those invitations and school calendars stuck to the front of your fridge. They broadcast times when you may not be home.

2. Lock your docs
Were you reviewing your bank statement just before a showing? Don’t forget to secure official documents such as passports, checkbooks and statements in a locked drawer or cabinet before leaving.

3. Screen your visitors
Be sure to add password protection to computers, laptops and tablets. It’s best to log out of your devices and unplug your computer.

4. Send your mail elsewhere
Remember – your junk mail can be a treasure to someone trolling for keys to your identity. After all, those annoying credit card offers contain all the information a thief needs to activate a fraudulent account. After sorting your mail, promptly shred anything you no longer need.

5. Be careful with catalogues
Periodicals contain more information than you might want a potential visitor to know. Make a habit of tearing off address stickers, and hide any publications that identify your affiliation with a certain organization.

6. Take your medicine – somewhere else
Prescription bottles have all kinds of information you don’t want to share with strangers, including your insurance policy number and doctor’s name. Hide your prescriptions very well, or even better, lock them up during showings to ensure no one takes your pills or your info.

A RE/MAX Elite professional may be able to offer more advice on how to keep your showings safe and stress-free. To find one, click here

The newly expanded agreement features a first-of-its-kind integration of two of the Zillow® Tech Connect programs, Leads and Reviews. Now, RE/MAX agents will be able to receive Zillow Group leads through their customer relationship management program, LeadStreet®, and will be able to feature their reviews from Zillow on their personal agent websites. Zillow Group will also offer specially designed training and education regarding these new resources to RE/MAX agents.

“This is truly a landmark agreement,” said Errol Samuelson, Zillow Group chief industry development officer. “We are focused on delivering greater value to RE/MAX and its brokerages and agents who use the services of Zillow Group. This agreement will help RE/MAX agents work more effectively and receive even more value from Zillow and Trulia.”

All 59,000 RE/MAX agents in the U.S. will have the opportunity for their listings to appear on Zillow and Trulia, as well as on Zillow’s and Trulia’s popular suite of mobile apps. Listings will also appear across Zillow Group’s extended network, which includes Yahoo!® Homes, MSN® Real Estate, AOL® Real Estate, HGTV® and Leju. In addition, the new agreement allows RE/MAX listings to feature unique brokerage branding, including a logo and link back to the brokerage website.

Focus on the Solution and NOT the Problem!

Tags :

focus on the solutionI’ve been drilling this statement into the heads of our agents since we opened our doors back in 2006.  Some have had more issues than others, which means they have heard me sing this tune like a broken record over the years 🙂So often in the world of business we allow our emotions to get the better of us.  When that happens the logical side of the brain shuts down and the irrational responses take over.

In real estate there are so many moving parts spinning in motion behind the scenes.  You could have the buyer’s agent, seller’s agent, buyer, seller, tenant, landlord, title agent, lender, insurance provider, home warranty rep, home inspector, contractors, attorneys, surveyors, appraisers, family relatives etc. and the list goes on.  Any one of these players can stir the pot on a moments notice and send blood pressure readings through the roof.

When this happens we all have a choice to make.  We can meet them at their level OR choose to rise above and redirect our energy towards a peaceful resolution. In every case that I’ve intervened with over the years, the answer was not far away once we removed all obstacles from the equation.  Finding common ground is easier to do with a level head versus one that resembles a rupturing volcano.

Does pressure make you fresher, or do you tend to be sucked into the chaos when the sky appears to be falling?  I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

May the force be with you!

4 Tips to Preserve Memories from Your Old Home

Tags :

4 Tips to Preserve Memories from Your Old HomeSelling the home where you grew up or where your kids’ took their first steps can be bittersweet. Prepare yourself for waves of nostalgia as you pack things up to move. Of course, it doesn’t have to be goodbye. Here are some tips to carry the memories with you.

  1. Many plants and trees can be transplanted, whether it’s through repotting or snipping a branch and planting it in your new yard. Research your favorite tree or flower online for more transplanting advice.
  2. Use mounting paper or a frame in the same color as the wall or carpet in your favorite room to display a photo of your family in that same room.
  3. Make a mini documentary of you and your family strolling through the house, discussing memories from each room.
  4. Take note of pencil marks where you measured your child’s height (or your parents measured yours). Mark them on a wall in your new house and continue the tradition.

Ready to create new memories? Start by contacting a RE/MAX agent who can help you find your next home:

6 Strategies to Create a Kid-friendly Street

Tags :

KidFriendlyStreet-Original

Neighbors with and without children can have very different ideas for what constitutes a harmonious community. Avoid an “Us vs. Them” mentality with these tips to foster a kid-friendly culture on your street.

Be inclusive
Don’t exclude neighbors without kids from your social circle. For example, offer to have your kids help the retirees down the road with yard work. They’ll appreciate the help and will likely be more patient if your kids start a ruckus with their friends.

Use sign language
Placing one of the popular “Drive like your kids live here” signs in your yard is a friendly reminder for neighbors to keep an eye on the road and their foot off the gas.

Start a community Facebook page
No doubt, your kids can help you with this one if you’re not social media savvy. Posting family announcements, neighborhood news, or items for sale can boost a feeling of community and inclusivity.

Summer flicks
Neighborhood gatherings can be beneficial for your kids’ social lives and your own. Hang a sheet over the garage, set out the beach chairs and host a “bike-in” kid-friendly movie screening. Don’t forget the popcorn and Twizzlers!

Work together
When concerns for your child’s safety or enjoyment of the neighborhood arise, gather other parents to bring the issues to the HOA. This is where fostering community will benefit you most: It’s important you’re able to raise your concerns and ideas to neighbors without everyone splitting into tribes.

Party on
Throw a block party for every season to help neighbors, and neighborhood kids, get to know one another. Try lining the street with luminarias in the fall. Or kicking off summer with a bike parade. Create a friendly atmosphere so that neighbors will come to you with problems rather than letting them stew.

Your Realtor will have the inside scoop on which neighborhoods have established a great community. Find a RE/MAX agent here: http://www.remax.com/officeagentsearch/.
